Jumping after NoTrump |   |
| Q | Partner opened 1NT and I jumped to 3D. Since I didn't bid Stayman or Transfer they thought this was weak and Passed. |
| A | This is a matter of partnership agreement. It can either be a strong bid showing Diamonds, or showing a long suit and asking partner for a filler to bid a cheap 3NT. It shouldn't be weak though. To show a weak minor you transfer by bidding 2S. See our NoTrump bidding cards for 40 questions on various bidding situations like this. |

Discourage after a Reverse |   |
| Q | When partner reverses how do I discourage them? |
| A | Rebidding your own suit shows you have a weak hand. Partner will bid again but you can then Pass them. You can also rebid 2NT "waiting and warning" and then Pass next time. |

Preempting Partner |   |
| Q | I opened 1D and partner bid 3S. What should I think?   John, from Michigan |
| A | Partner has a long Spade suit and absolutely nothing else otherwise they would bid 1S, then 2S etc. |

| Another DrBob next week.
Cheer up someone. |
