| PLAY OF THE HAND |
|   |
|   West leads the JH and you must make a decision on the very first trick whether to finesse or not. Count your tricks. You have 6 Clubs, 1 Diamond, 1 Heart, and 2 Spades for a total of 10 tricks. So it looks like you need the finesse in Hearts for your 11th trick. |
|   |
| 1) |
You try Dummy's QH but East wins with the King. |
| 2) |
East returns a Heart and you win the Ace. |
| 3) |
You draw a round of trump with the KC. |

| 2) |
Draw a round of trump with the King of Clubs. |
| 3) |

| PLAY OF THE HAND |
|   |
|   You've now won the 4 tricks to their 1. You've done it already! East didn't want to take their KH since that would make your Queen good and you'd only lose 1 Heart and the AS. So East returned a Diamond hoping West had the AD and could lead a Heart through Dummy's Queen again. But you win the AD and discard a Heart from your hand on 1 of Dummy's now set up Spades. So again you will lose only the AS and at the end just 1 Heart trick to their King. Success. Don't be too quick to take a finesse when you might be able to setup a throwoff. |
