Seeing Double

In a beginner's class my partner taught, some of the students had never seen
a bidding box. When it came time that they should start bidding and using
them, one of the "newbies" forgot and stated his bid by voice.
My partner
gently suggested that he should use the bidding box. He did:
He bent his head towards the bidding box and spoke into it: 1 Spade! - True
story!C.K.
